It’s a question you have undoubtedly been asked as a kid, in school, at work, and on just about every dating app that exists… are you a dog person, or a cat person (and then you swiped left or right depending on the answer).
While we love all pets here at OkFido… we decided to use trends software to take a look at the state by state breakdown to see who came out on top. The results are certainly interesting.
The map below is based on geotagged twitter data in the last month, tracking the phrases “I love cats” or “I love dogs” in addition to related hashtags (over 100,000 tweets tracked).
As you can see from the map, the country is nearly split 50/50… with cats “winning” 24 states and dogs winning 26 states.
There also seems to be a regional component, with dogs clearly being favored in the West and cats being favored in the Northeast. The Midwest seems to favor dogs, and surprisingly, the mountain region seems to prefer cats.
So there you have it, if you are a cat person head to the northeast to find your cat loving partner… if you are a dog person, saddle up and head west.
